The Power of Words, Part 14: Legalizing Marinara

Reading Time: 5 minutes

Legalize Marinara - words that create a buzzIf you appreciate words as a tool, or write, or use the language in any way to deliver a stronger, more memorable message, keep reading.

Legalize Marinara

While much is written per day, few blocks of text thrill the reader or succeed in generating a real buzz.

Candidly, most are boring crap, resulting in my clicking rapidly onto something else, or inciting me to start scanning really fast, so I hopefully succeed (like a search party) in quickly finding something — anything — in my state of heightened desperation.

Not too long ago, I shared with everyone the “Mexican Coke” store sign that was, in a word, brilliant.

Well, this pandemic of unimaginative blocks of text recently came to a screeching halt.

My wife and I went to a restaurant in Scottsdale, Arizona. It’s called Oregano’s, like the herb (though I rebelliously preferred calling it OreGAno’s for no reason).

I opened the menu to this “joint” and started chuckling at the menu descriptions. They were simply… awesome.

Stunned at the creativity in what I was reading, I took out my iPhone and starting clicking away only to also notice the Tshirt our server was wearing (shown above).

Whatever they were smoking, I was definitely getting a contact buzz!

The Role of Words

Man, this place was on fire with descriptions that made you want to order every item, and talk about it with your friends at your table.

(And not to mislead anyone, there wasn’t any other herbs present that I could detect other than oregano.)

So… I am sharing these morsels of brilliance here without any more foreplay:

Who wouldn’t be inspired by these little gems of language and imagery?

And just when I’d thought it was all over, as we were leaving I saw this sign:

Men, Take Note of thos one!

I left smiling.

With a doggie bag.

Talking all about how cool that restaurant was.

Wouldn’t you?
