“…if you’re a copycat, you can never keep up. You’re always in a passive position. You never lead; you always follow. You give birth to something that’s already behind the times—just a knockoff, an inferior version of the original. That’s no way to live.” ― Jason Fried, New York Times bestseller, Rework
Authentic branding is about creating something that achieves several things:
- Transporting a vision, an aspiration, to the reader or viewer
- Gives something unique the voice it needs to be heard
- Conveying a transformation that your product or service makes possible
This is as true for branding as it is for rebranding which is why I speak about this in this week’s One Minute Wednesday:
Authentic Branding
Branding done without understanding is deadly. It’s just going through the motions.
This leaves you with only two options:
- Copycat tactics or
- Authentic branding.
Copycat tactics go through the motions based on checklists, and other “color-by-number” solutions whereas authentic branding has understanding as its foundation.
To have a voice that’s real, you need authenticity and the foundation of that is originality which is made possible only by insight.
And when you have that real comprehension, you have something that’s priceless: judgment.
