Ask any company and you’ll find four things they all seek to master:

Branding. Innovating. Disruption. Success.

Amongst the best marketing strategies for businesses, both large and small, there are:

  • the gems, 
  • the gold nuggets, 
  • the business advice you can’t afford to not follow. 

FACT: how marketing works in the world today has gone through a subtle but major cultural shift.

Connecting in a Distracted World

Today:

  • It’s relationships over transactions.
  • It’s story over pitch.
  • It’s empathy over domination.
  • It’s authentic recognition over empty platitudes.
  • It’s ownership over humble modesty.

(For wordsmiths, the concept of ā€œhumbleā€ somehow over time became a virtue. But the word’s origins are anything but. The origin of the word is: late 13c., of persons, “submissive, respectful, lowly in manner, modest, not self-asserting, obedient,” from Old French humble, umble, earlier umele, from Latin humilis “lowly, humble,” literally “on the ground,” from humus “earth.ā€  From late 14c., of things, “lowly in kind, state, condition, or amount,” also “of low birth or rank.ā€)

In other words, don’t be shy about your greatness. You are worthy. Let it shine. You have no idea who it might inspire.

BRANDING will trump sales as branding is in for the long play, and what will give you top-of-mind presence and thought leadership well beyond a mere transaction.

INNOVATING is simply paying attention to the shifts, the subtle metrics that signal something new is on the horizon. Innovation lasts. Complacency doesn’t.

DISRUPTION is being willing to shift, pivot and throw away the old if the new has a smarter, simpler and more relevant way of interacting than the old approach did.

SUCCESS is the outcome and is also accompanied by failure. Failure is simply one way that taught us that approach was NOT the road to success. And success is knowing as much what NOT to do as it is knowing what to do.

Growth Is The Only Road to Survival

Branding is no longer the way it’s been done.

Marketing isn’t stupid offers.

Features are not the way to a better brand.
