The Best Sign to Post on Your Business’ Bathroom Wall

Reading Time: 2 minutes

best business practices“Storytelling is the game. It’s what we all do. It’s why Nike is Nike, it’s why Apple is Apple, it’s why Walt Disney built Disney World and it’s why Vince McMahon makes a billion dollars.”
Gary Vaynerchuk, VaynerMedia

Thinking of best business practices, the original title for this post was “How to Effectively Wash Away Mediocre Ideas and Practices.”

Why? Because mediocre ideas eat away at opportunity—compromising business ingenuity and, in short, stinking up everything.

Best Business Practices Reimagined

After completing a branding project that I’d been working on for 18 months, I had wrapped up a meeting with the client and I had to go to the men’s room. While washing my hands, I saw one of those common employee signs about washing your hands before returning to work.

Wash Mediocrity Down the Drain!

The sign diagrammed out every little step one would take to ensure you were thorough and not bringing the business you just completed into the business you’re about to return to.

This amused me since we’ve all seen this type of sign in professional or public restrooms in a gazillion variations.

But, for some reason, this time, I imagined, “What if this applied to more than ‘physical hygiene’ and applied equally to “mental hygiene’ — mental floss, if you will?”

So, I revamped this sign using the following graphic.

Ensuring Great Thinking Starts in the Bathroom
